There are many types of vacationers who would enjoy a visit to Plano. Are you a nature lover? If you are, Plano has over 60 city parks for you to explore as well as nature preserves in the surrounding wilderness. You can live an early 1900s farm life at the Heritage Farmstead, see a rock concert at the outdoor amphitheater in Oak Point Park, admire the sculpture work at the veteran's memorial in Memorial Park, or play eighteen holes at one of several public courses. The Arbor Hills Nature Preserve has a bit of everything. It's over 200 acres in which you can hike, bike, bird watch, picnic, or play to your heart's content.

Once a year in September, Plano's outdoor spaces are transformed into a launch pad for hundreds of colorful balloons during the Plano Hot Air Balloon Festival. The event draws in thousands of people from all over and incorporates not just balloon rides but also a carnival and live entertainment. Some of the festival's entertainers can be seen year round giving performances at the Arts Center of Plano, where you can not only hear concerts and see plays but also browse local artwork.

Art and antiques are two of the most popular things to buy in Plano's historic downtown shopping district. Its boutiques are perfect for an afternoon of window shopping. If you get rained out, you can always move your shopping spree inside to one of Plano's shopping malls. The Market Square has 40 outlet shops and is a bargain hunter's paradise, while the Shops at Willow Bend caters to the more upscale fashion crowd and has a play area for the kids. It is Collin Creek that's the largest, however, with two levels and more than 160 stores.
